We'd wanted to play a Sunday show for a long time, but had struggled to find the right venue. Then Backstage Hotel got in touch.

Backstage Hotel is well known as a crash pad for touring bands and musicians playing at the legendary Melkweg or Paradiso.

Everyone's welcome, of course – and you don't need to be a musician to strum a tune on one of the guitars hanging on the bar wall ("talent optional", says the hotel).

Backstage Hotel was a perfect place for our first Sunday Session, where good records and music chatter created a chilled atmosphere that felt different to our more chaotic monthly shows.

We only had a single turntable, but our DJs kept the music moving and played a selection of their personal favourites.

Thanks to AVC regulars DJ Roland, Deepak Nichani and DJ Tea & 2 Sugars for joining in, and to Elixiroid for playing his first taster set for us.

Thanks also to Damn Good Records and DJ Mouskovich who joined us for the afternoon and brought along a killer selection of vinyl for sale.

The event gave us an appetite for more Sunday Sessions, and it wasn't long before we staged another.
