Bucho Bullita brought the sounds of Rio de Janeiro to Amsterdam Vinyl Club with a vibrant mix of baile beats, Miami bass, freestyle and funk melody.

A dedicated collector with around 2,000 records, he hunts worldwide for original Brazilian pressings that capture the energy of Rio’s late-80s and 90s club scene.

What do you play as a DJ?
My love for Brasil funk carioca is pure and I play a straight-up mix of Miami bass, funk melody and baile beats. Bucho Bullita will take you back to the 80s clubs in Rio de Janeiro – feel the freestyle vinyl mixes and good vibes.

Tell us the story of how you started DJing.
I started collecting records when I was 17 in 2006. That was when I bought my first carioca records in Lapa, Rio de Janeiro. I knew, this is my sound to blow up!

Was there a particular moment or event that first sparked your interest in becoming a DJ?
When I was 17 I saw DJs on MTV scratching and mixing – I was hooked!

How often do you DJ?
I play one or two times every week.

Tell us about the music you played for your AVC set.
At AVC I played a funky freestyle carioca set that was a combination of baile beats, Miami bass, freestyle and funk melody – all originals from the late 80s and 90s.

What is it that attracts you to vinyl records?
They're pure, fresh and real items in hand.

Do you have a big record collection?
I have like 2,000 records.

Do you spend a lot of time hunting for records?
I hunt records all over the world, but my sound is from the ghettos of Rio where I have connections for the special records I search for!
